The Israel Antiquities Authority – the preeminent organization in the field of Israeli and Biblical Archaeology – has begun an unprecedented project to bring together approximately two million archaeological objects, among them nearly 25,000 Dead Sea Scroll fragments, under one roof in the heart of Jerusalem.

Located on Museum Hill in Jerusalem, the Jay and Jeanie Schottenstein National Campus for the Archaeology of Israel, currently under construction, will be the only open, interactive center for the conservation, study and presentation of Holy Land antiquities. The importance of building a safe, permanent and accessible home for the most significant material culture discovered in the Land of Israel cannot be overstated. To date, Israel’s historical artifacts have been scattered in small, outdated facilities all over the country and the work of the IAA hidden from view.

Designed by renowned architect Moshe Safdie, the National Campus will bring together objects from the Archaeological State Treasures and the National Archaeological Library and Archives, as well as open the National Archaeological Conservation and Restoration Laboratories to the public for the first time. The National Campus will provide an unprecedented look at how millions of artifacts from myriad cultures and eras of history are unearthed, restored and displayed.
